As our customer asked if we could help with a new generation Jack connector, we were in no doubt that we represented the right partner in Simula.
The customer wanted a 2.5mm ear phone jack to be designed as an SMD connector. That in itself was not particularly difficult, but that it should float on the contact points on the board and not be soldered was the challenge.
The reason for the desire for this special connector was that our customer wanted to only use SMD components. At the same time they wanted to have a connector that could acquire a greater tolerance of contact points if it was exposed to stress. After drawing approval we ordered tools, and the first prototypes were ready for approval after 10 weeks, after which the project went live. It is produced on tape & reel for automatic assembly.
